NOTE: under 'Best way to Plant..' we recommend top of root ball/flare 2-3" above ground level.
Tree Growth Rates, Sizes by Soil Conditions
Washington County and surrounding areas are heavily saturated with Houston Black Clay (aka 'Black Gumbo'). Some trees naturally take to this soil, while some prefer sand/sandy loam.
The linked chart below lists those that are adaptable to clay, and those that prefer sand/sandy loam.
Those that prefer sand/sandy loam but planted in clay can still thrive if planted using certain practices.
